At DMT Environmental Technology we have a challenge; creating the clear and prosperous future. We offer solutions for biogas upgrading and resource recovery and these technologies contribute to a sustainable world. Development, innovation and people, planet, profit are our core values and are imbedded our companies’ culture. Known for our technical leadership and quality, we are ready to change the future of energy!
INTERNSHIP – Hydrogen peroxide for biogas treatment
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a common pollutant in biogas. It is formed in anaerobic digesters from sulfate (SO4) by sulfate reducing bacteria. Release of H2S into the atmosphere is strictly regulated because it is toxic, corrosive, it has an unpleasant odor and because it is harmful for the environment. H2S, therefore, must be removed from biogas upon further use.
DMT provides biogas desulfurization solutions which are suitable for H2S bulk removal and which are also applicable on a smaller scale (i.e. for biogas). To expand our product portfolio we are looking for alternative H2S removal solutions. One possible alternative solution for H2S removal is through the oxidation with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). H2O2 is considered as a green chemical and can oxidize H2S into elemental sulfur and sulfate. H2O2 is typically used for H2S removal from wastewater but for the treatment of biogas it is not commonly applied.
What is the objective?
The objective of this internship is to investigate the techno economic feasibility of bulk H2S removal from biogas with H2O2. With the outcome of the work a comparison with our existing solutions can be made. The intern will also investigate alternative applications (e.g. removal of volatile organic compounds from biogas).
What are we looking for?
Intern has a background in chemical engineering / biotechnology / environmental technology or related. He/She has to be capable to work individually.
What do we offer?
DMT offers an opportunity to students to work along with an international team, with colleagues from different backgrounds, to cover all the probable perspectives of the project. For international students, this is a great opportunity to get a Dutch experience in the northern side of the Netherlands.
To apply for this internship project, please attach your CV and motivation letter. Please also include the period you are available and the requested duration of the internship (between 4 and 6 months).
