INTERNSHIP – MEMBRANE FIELD TESTING (BIOGAS)

DMT is offering an internship position for a student on the topic of membrane field testing in biogas streams. This internship involves real-life testings and performance analysis of several membranes for different applications. The testings will be held in a relevant industrial environment based in Friesland, the Netherlands. The student will assist on evaluating and validating the results and extrapolate the data in scaled-up applications.

What is the objective?

The objective of this project is to validate membrane performances through pilot scale testings under several operational conditions and with several different gas compositions.

The project will start with the start-up and commissioning of a membrane-based skid in an industrial biogas plant based in Friesland. In this skid, several testing will be held for different applications. These applications will mainly include high methane recovery and high methane product purity. The testings will be coupled with process modelling and reverse engineering in order to make an assessment of the experimental and theoretical data.

The end goal is to evaluate which route will fit best DMT’s strategy and which practice should be included in the company’s portfolio to climb further the ladder of the biogas market.

What is in the scope?

This internship will be focusing on CO2 separation from CH4 concentrated streams. Naturally, biogas will be the main stream examined.

What is the expected outcome?

The expected results from this internship will provide proof of concept for the targeted membrane applications. The following aspects should be achieved:

  • Assistance on the experimental process and data analysis.
  • Optimization of theoretical system models.
  • Expand the possibilities of the existing test skid for other applications.

  • Proposal of plan – excel/word document
  • Periodically progress report/ presentation/meetings update – word document
  • Articles summary – word document
  • Final report – word or PDF document
  • Final presentation – power point

What are we looking for?

The ideal intern has a background in (bio)chemical engineering / environmental sciences or related.  The student will require an active VCA (or equivalent) certificate to visit the industrial site. The student has to be both a team player as being capable to work individually.
