Desulphurisation of biogas and syngas

Prevent corrosion and SOx emissions

Both biogas and syngas can contain hydrogen sulphide (H₂S). In many cases is make good sense to remove these contaminants before using the gas. Gas desulphurisation therefore is essential. Desulphurisation of biogas and syngas is necessary to prevent corrosion and SOx emissions in engines and contributes to the conservation of your plant.

Biogas is produced by fermenting biological waste and is considered one of the most important sources of renewable energy. The desulphurisation technology of DMT, Sulfurex®CR, directly controls the caustic dosing with its H₂S sensor. The system requires very little time to adapt to fluctuations in H₂S load and is very adaptable to changes in the specification of the gas. Other advantages of the Sulfurex®CR are the relatively small footprint, efficiency and capacity, easy maintenance and low operational costs.

2016, Sulfurex®BF, 700 Nm3/h biogas from waste water treatment plant
The biogas contains 3000 ppm of H₂S, reduced to 100 ppm
Product: green gas, biogas

Biogas from wastewater treatment plant

Conventional wastewater treatment systems are focused on the efficient removal of polluting components. This is commonly done through aeration and separation of formed biomass from the cleaned water. After treatment, the water would be discharged on to surface waters or subsoil irrigation. Introduction of polishing steps after these treatment systems opened up the possibilities to reuse water for either irrigation or even potable water.

DMT Sulfurex®BF gas desulphurisation

The projects shown above were built in Auckland, New Zealand and in Shafdan, Israel.

DMT Environmental Technology has installed the system in New Zealand at the wastewater treatment facility in Rosedale near Auckland. The best solution for this wastewater treatment facility is DMT’s Sulfurex®BF, a biological, low maintenance desulphurisation system.
This system does not use any chemicals and due to the biology in the system, it almost operates itself. The perfect solution for this plant.

The project in the Shafdan area exists of four columns and is the biggest Sulfurex®BF DMT Environmental Technology has built for a wastewater treatment plant. This system is also a biological system but it is four times as big as the system in New Zealand.
The system is very reliable and requires very little maintenance. By just monitoring the bacteria and making sure they are happy, the system is easy to operate and needs very little intervening.
