Biogas upgrading at a WWTP

Biogas upgrading and gas desulphurisation at a WWTP

Wastewater is a valuable source for the production of sustainable energy by anaerobic digestion. However, biogas from wastewater is different from other sorts of biogas and it typically contains contaminants. These need to be removed before the biogas can be used in a boiler, CHP engine or biogas upgrading system.
DMT Environmental Technology is an expert in the treatment of biogas and removal of many different contaminants and can use and advise various technologies in a sustainable way. We are market leader with our advanced membrane technology Carborex MS.

Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a proven technology for sludge treatment at wastewater treatment facilities. It allows the generation of renewable energy from the same process. During the anaerobic digestion process, microorganisms break down the organic matter in the sludge and convert it into biogas, a mixture of methane and carbon dioxide. The biogas can be used for electricity and heat, but it can also be upgraded to biomethane, green gas. An additional benefit is that the sludge is stabilised and the dry matter content is reduced, therefore reducing cost for eg. transportation.

The biogas produced on-site can be used as vehicle fuel and is an excellent alternative for fossil fuels.
